"It ain't braggin' if you can do it." (Jerome "Dizzy" Dean) Dizzy Dean was the 1934 NL MVP, going 30-7 and leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a defeat of the Tigers in the World Series. He preceded Yogi Berra with his convoluted bits of logic or homespun wisdom. When told that his toe was fractured, he replied, "Fractured, hell, the damn thing's broken!" As a broadcaster after his playing days, he sometimes signed off the air by saying, "Don't fail to miss tomorrow's game." He was once knocked unconscious by a thrown ball while running the bases, and an x-ray was negative. The next day's paper exhibited a great Dizzy-ism with a headline that read, "X-ray of Dean's head reveals nothing." Dean is in the Hall of Fame with a record of 150-83.
It's the heart of baseball season now and the summer will be filled with great and goofy baseball quotations, brought to you by SportsWise.
Welcome to the home page of SportsWise Presentations, the place for sports history, trivia and great sports quotations.
Our first book, The Story Behind the Glory: Winning Quotes From Sports Greats on the Game of Life, is due in April 2008. The book features the best q uotations from America's greatest athletes and coaches and the wisdom and inspiration we can all gain from them.
To
celebrate that and sports in general, we have blogs, quizzes, and a
quote of the week, all designed for the true sports fan. Quizzes on the
sports of college and pro football, baseball, college and pro
basketball, golf, hockey and the Heisman award are already in place.
Soon to come are quizzes on boxing, soccer and tennis. Score 8 of 10 on
a quiz and win a free book. To play, just to go the Quizzes tab.
The
weekly SportsWise blog will comment on the sporting topics of the day.
No f____ing this or that, but a perspective from a dedicated sports fan
who loves the games. But, like Sports Illustrated's look at swimsuit
fashion along with beautiful scenery, the blog is not averse to looking
at the whimsical or discussing who is the hottest.
You
can sign up for the Quote of the Week, which features a great sports
quote in tune with the season or current hot topic of the day and is
meant to entertain, inspire or simply enlighten.
